Zeus Design Build

Presiding over the Canyon

Perched on a ridge beyond the Berkeley Hills, this home’s huge wraparound deck stretches out into the air. Stained-glass insets in the railing play off the light, and a custom wood bench provides seating along the front porch. The back garden area is tiled with hand-cut stone, with a rock garden that cleverly incorporates stone steps.

Zen Treetop Deck in the Hills

Nestled among the Oakland treetops, this homeowner created a wrap-around deck that took full advantage of its surroundings.

A simple, zen-like design was developed to reflect the Japanese styling of the house structure. Steps were added to create a natural flow between deck entrance points. Redwood was chosen to create a seamless and uniform appearance. Open bench seating was also integrated into the deck design to create areas for social gathering. Prior to the deck, Zeus Design Build had also installed a bathroom addition.

Hills Health Club: Picture Perfect Patio

The Hills Health Club wanted to create an outdoor space where their patrons could relax and enjoy the scenery. Perched atop a steep hillside, with a picturesque backdrop of redwood canyons and Mount Diablo, Zeus Design Build constructed a large deck and patio.

Concrete piers and a retaining wall/combination planter box were constructed from which to anchor a redwood frame. Sustainable Trex decking (made from recycled milk products) was chosen for resilience and environmental appeal. Flashed framing, where felt paper is laid under the boards, was used to increase the durability.

A concrete pathway, patterned by large stars, helped to add interest. Integration of outdoor lighting provided the finishing touch.
